Our History and Heritage

Wazaki® was founded in 1968 by Hideo Wazaki in a small workshop in Osaka, Japan. A lifelong golfer and club maker, Wazaki-san had a vision for creating golf clubs that fused traditional Japanese club making techniques with modern technologies and designs.

Wazaki® started out handcrafting persimmon wood woods and forged blade irons. As one of the few master club makers in Japan at the time, Wazaki-san’s clubs quickly earned a reputation for their superb feel and craftsmanship. Top professional golfers in Japan used Wazaki® equipment and helped drive demand for his small workshop.

In the 1970s, Wazaki® pioneered new club designs like cavity back irons and metal woods. We adopted innovative casting and machining processes to create clubs with improved perimeter weighting and playability. Our forged carbon steel irons and woods combined traditional Japanese polish and grain flow with expanded sweet spots and lower centers of gravity.

As one of the first companies to develop hybrid irons in the 1990s, Wazaki® continued leading golf club innovation. Our hybrids blended the forgiveness of an iron with the high launch and distance of fairway woods. Wazaki® hybrid irons became very popular with recreational golfers looking for more playability and consistency.

Forging

Our forged irons start as a single billet of premium carbon steel that is precision milled and stamped before undergoing eight separate forging stages. Repeated hammering and shaping under extreme heat aligns the carbon atoms and grain structure within the clubhead to achieve the ideal strength and feel.

After forging, every head is individually polished by hand to our exacting standards to ensure proper finish and aesthetics. The forged process enables us to create cavity back irons with extremely thin faces and topline for maximum ball speed and playability.

Casting

To achieve optimal shapes and performance in our metal woods and hybrids, we use a high-quality casting process. Our casting facilities utilize the latest computer modeling and simulations to dial in the complex shapes required in hybrids and fairway woods.

The casting process allows us to distribute weight lower and deeper within the clubhead for easy launch and more forgiveness. After casting, our club heads are CNC milled to precise tolerances and hand polished for a beautiful finish.

Assembly

Wazaki® conducts 100% inspection at every stage of production – from raw materials to finished clubs. Our master club builders hand assemble every club and fine tune its weighting and feel characteristics.
